Becky Maranda, BScPT | BScKin

Having over 20 years of experience, Becky utilises a variety of manual therapy techniques, craniosacral therapy, and visceral mobilization to decrease pain, facilitate healing and restore function.

manual therapy

Manual Therapy

The International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists defines manual therapy techniques as:

"Skilled hand movements intended to produce any or all of the following effects: improve tissue extensibility; increase range of motion of the joint complex; mobilize or manipulate soft tissues and joints; induce relaxation; change muscle function; modulate pain; and reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation or movement restriction.”

Treatment may include moving joints in specific directions and at different speeds to regain movement (joint mobilization and manipulation), muscle stretching, passive movements of the affected body part, or having the patient move the body part against the therapist’s resistance to improve muscle activation and timing. Selected specific soft tissue techniques may also be used to improve the mobility and function of tissue and muscles.

Cranial Sacral Therapy

The practitioner works with the bones of the skull and pelvis. This affects, in turn, the deeper layers of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluids in the spinal canal, the brain and the spinal cord itself.

"CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance."

Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams - about the weight of a nickel - practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.

visceral mobilization

Visceral Mobilization

Visceral mobilization relies on the palpation of normal and abnormal forces within the body. By using specific techniques, therapists can evaluate how abnormal forces interplay, overlap and affect the normal body forces at work. The goal is to help the body's normal forces remove abnormal effects, whatever their sources.

"Visceral Mobilization (VM) assists functional and structural imbalances throughout the body including musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic dysfunction."

Visceral mobilization is used to locate and solve problems throughout the body. It encourages your own natural mechanisms to improve the functioning of your organs, dissipate the negative effects of stress, enhance mobility of the musculoskeletal system through the connective tissue attachments, and influence general metabolism.
